Winter Family Photos at Blackmud Creek | Edmonton Family Photographer
There’s something incredibly special about winter family photos — the quiet, the soft light, and the way everything feels a little more intentional. I recently met up with Larissa & Bill for their very first winter family session together, and it was such a beautiful way to capture this season of their lives.
We spent the morning down at Blackmud Creek, one of my favourite Edmonton locations for family photography year-round. On this particular day, the light was absolutely magical. That gentle winter sun filtered through the trees and gave us the kind of glow that photographers dream about — soft, flattering, and timeless.
And then there’s Zander. He is just the sweetest, and every year I photograph this family, I’m amazed at how much he’s grown. He’s getting so comfortable in front of the camera now, full of personality and confidence, which makes photographing him such a joy. Seeing kids become more themselves year after year is one of the greatest parts of being a family photographer.
I truly love photographing Larissa & Bill’s family annually. There’s something so meaningful about building that relationship over time and creating a collection of images that tell a family’s story — not just in one season, but across many years. Winter family photos are often overlooked, but sessions like this are a perfect reminder of how beautiful they can be.
If you’ve been considering winter family photography in Edmonton, Blackmud Creek offers stunning natural scenery, even in the colder months. With the right timing and light, winter sessions can feel cozy, calm, and incredibly heartfelt.
I’m already looking forward to seeing this family again next year and capturing the next chapter.
