Greenland Garden Family & Maternity Photos: Sherwood Park Photography

Last week I had the joy of photographing Laura & Paul’s beautiful family at Greenland Garden Centre in Sherwood Park — and with baby number five on the way, their session was full of heart, connection, and gorgeous light.

Greenland isn’t just a stand-out garden centre with an incredible selection of plants, garden décor, home goods, and seasonal offerings — it’s also becoming a go-to for indoor family photography in the winter months.

While garden centres are often bustling with plant lovers and shoppers, Greenland stands apart thanks to its warm, greenhouse-style spaces that feel alive even in the depths of a cold Alberta winter. The lush greenery and natural light make it a perfect backdrop for families who want beautiful, organic portraits without bundling up in winter coats or braving freezing outdoor conditions.

For large families — like Laura & Paul’s — this kind of space makes all the difference. There’s room to move, explore, and interact, and the variety of textures and plants means every set of photos feels fresh and unique. I love capturing big families because of the layers of connection: the way siblings play together, how parents balance love and chaos, and those quiet moments in between that are pure magic.

Photographing sessions like this reminds me why I adore what I do. Large families bring so much character, joy, and life to a session — and finding beautiful, adaptable locations like Greenland Garden Centre only enhances that experience.

Whether you’re planning maternity photos, family portraits, or just want a creative session to celebrate your crew, Greenland is quickly becoming one of my favourite indoor winter photography locations. I can’t wait to go back — and to meet that sweet baby #5 soon.
