Extended Family Photography in Sherwood Park: Celebrating 50 Years of Family

There are few things more special than having the whole family together — and celebrating 50 years of marriage makes it even more meaningful. I recently had the pleasure of meeting with Aynsley’s family at my acreage just outside Sherwood Park for a very special extended family photography session.

Her parents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, and with everyone together to celebrate, they decided it was the perfect opportunity to capture updated extended family photos.

Extended Family Photography in Sherwood Park

I absolutely love photographing extended families. These sessions are always so much fun because there are so many different relationships and personalities coming together in one place.

Whether you are getting everyone together for a milestone anniversary, a family reunion, a birthday celebration, or simply because it has been far too long since everyone was in the same place, an extended family photography session is a wonderful way to document that time together.

There is something particularly special about photographs that include multiple generations. Years from now, these images become more than just family photos — they become a record of the people who were there, the relationships you shared, and the moments you experienced together.

Family Photos in a Wildflower Field

Since Aynsley’s family was joining me at my acreage, we were able to take advantage of the different areas around the property for their session.

Of course, we had to spend some time in the wildflower area!

I love photographing families outdoors, and having a field of wildflowers as the backdrop adds something extra special to summer family photos. The combination of natural surroundings, beautiful light, and a big group of people who genuinely enjoy being together makes for photographs that feel relaxed and authentic.

And with an extended family session, we don’t have to stick to just one combination of people. We can photograph the entire family together, smaller family groups, grandparents with grandchildren, siblings, couples, and all of those little relationships that make up a family.

Celebrating 50 Years of Marriage

A 50th wedding anniversary is an incredible milestone, and I can’t think of a better reason to bring the whole family together for photographs.

Fifty years of marriage means decades of memories, children, grandchildren, and a family that has continued to grow. Having everyone together for an anniversary celebration creates a rare opportunity to document the entire family at this particular moment in time.

These are the kinds of photographs that become treasured family heirlooms.
