There are some wedding days that just feel extra special, and Sarah and Taylor’s wedding at Cattail Crossing Golf & Winter Club was definitely one of them.

Megan had the honour of photographing their beautiful wedding day, and the skies decided to put on a show of their own. Gorgeous storm clouds rolled through throughout the day, creating the most dramatic and beautiful backdrop for their wedding photos. As a photographer, I absolutely love when the weather gives us something a little unexpected to work with — and these clouds were just so pretty!

Located in Sturgeon County just north of Edmonton and near St. Albert, Cattail Crossing Golf & Winter Club is a beautiful option for couples looking for an Edmonton-area golf course wedding venue. One of my favourite things about photographing weddings is seeing all the little details that make a wedding completely personal to the couple.

Sarah and Taylor’s day was filled with those thoughtful touches. From the beautiful bridal details to the reception decor, every part of the day reflected their personalities and the things that were important to them.

And then there was the firetruck.

The groom incorporated a firetruck into the wedding day, which made for some incredibly fun and memorable photographs. It is exactly the kind of personal detail that makes wedding photography so much more than simply photographing the traditional moments. These are the photographs that tell the story of who you are as a couple and what made your wedding day yours.

Stormy Skies at Cattail Crossing

If you know us, you know we love beautiful light — but there is something pretty magical about dramatic skies, too.

The storm clouds over Cattail Crossing created so much depth and atmosphere in the photographs. Against the open landscape of the golf course, the sky became almost another element of the wedding design.

Rather than worrying about the changing weather, Megan was able to use it to create some gorgeous portraits of Sarah and Taylor. The result is a collection of wedding photographs that feel dramatic, romantic and completely connected to the day they actually experienced.

That is one of the things we love most about wedding photography: your photographs don’t have to look like everyone else’s. Sometimes the most memorable images come from the things you couldn’t plan.

The venue’s banquet room features large windows, high ceilings and views of the surrounding property, while the outdoor ceremony area provides a beautiful natural setting for saying your vows.

The Details That Made Sarah & Taylor’s Wedding Their Own

Sarah chose her wedding dress from The Bridal Boutique, an Edmonton bridal shop known for its curated selection of designer wedding gowns. The boutique has been serving Western Canadian brides since 2007 and currently has an Edmonton location in Holland Plaza.

Her bridesmaids wore dresses from Azazie Canada, and her veil was also from Azazie.

The bridal party’s hair and makeup were done by BeautyBoss, with Devon Luhtala working on hair and Erika Joan working on makeup.

Taylor and the guys looked sharp in tuxedos from Moores.

The flowers were beautifully sourced from Costco, proving that creating beautiful wedding details doesn’t have to mean every element comes from a traditional wedding florist.

Sarah also took care of much of the wedding planning and decor herself. I always love seeing couples put their own hands and creativity into their wedding day because those personal details are often what make the photographs feel so meaningful.

Celebrating With Family & Friends

The celebration continued at Cattail Crossing, with food provided by the venue and Out of Bounds Restaurant, the restaurant located within Cattail Crossing Golf & Winter Club. The venue offers on-site catering for weddings and events, making it especially convenient for couples who want their ceremony and reception experience to flow seamlessly together.

Greg Hochhalter officiated the ceremony, and Grindstone Productions kept the celebration going with DJ entertainment.

And, of course, there were cupcakes from Rachel’s Cakes to add something sweet to the celebration. Rachel’s Cakes serves Edmonton and surrounding communities, including St. Albert and Sherwood Park.

Before the big day, Sarah also had some amazing beauty professionals helping her get wedding-ready. Her nail art was done by Claws by Cass, lashes were done by Lashed by Kourtney, and her spray tan was done by Kennedy Elizabeth Esthetics Studio. All three are part of the Studio Eleven Suites community in St. Albert. Studio Eleven’s directory currently lists Clawz by Cass, Kennedy Elizabeth Esthetics Studio and Lashed By Kourtney among its beauty professionals.
