From Their Wedding Day to Family Photos 12 Years Later

Sometimes photography gets to come full circle in the most unexpected and special ways.

You may remember Rose & Joe from a recent post because I recently submitted one of their wedding photographs to PPOC Regionals. The image was taken 12 years ago, on their wedding day, and it has always been one of those photographs that has stuck with me.

It was my little “sun umbrella rescue” moment in the rain.

Their wedding day had plenty of rain, and somehow that rain created one of those completely unplanned, wonderfully imperfect moments that I love so much about wedding photography. Twelve years later, I decided that image deserved another chance to be seen and submitted it for regional judging.

And then, quite unexpectedly, I got to see Rose & Joe again.

Twelve years later

This family session was the first time I had seen them since their wedding day, and honestly, it felt a little surreal.

Rose and Joe haven’t changed nearly as much as you might expect after 12 years. They still look like the same couple I remember photographing on their wedding day, only now they have two absolutely gorgeous children running around with them.

And parenthood looks really, really good on these two.

One of my favourite things about being an Edmonton family photographer is getting to see families through different seasons of their lives. A wedding day is such a significant chapter, but it is only the beginning of so many other chapters that come afterward.

Getting to photograph Rose & Joe again, this time with their children, was such a beautiful reminder of that.

The best part of being a family photographer

There is something incredibly meaningful about photographing people more than once.

When I photograph a family for the first time, I’m getting to know them. When I photograph them years later, there is already a history there. I know where they started, and now I get to see where life has taken them.

Those are the sessions that make being an Edmonton family photographer so special to me.

It’s not just about creating beautiful portraits. It’s about documenting the people you love, the way your family feels right now, and all those little pieces of life that you might not realize you’ll miss someday.

Rose & Joe, it was SO good to see you again after all these years. Thank you for letting me photograph this next chapter of your story. Your family is beautiful, and I’m so glad our paths crossed again.
