Pigeon Lake Family Photography | A Chilly Fall Family Session Near Battle Lake, Alberta
Pigeon Lake Family Photography | A Chilly Fall Family Session Near Battle Lake, Alberta
recently made the drive out toward Pigeon Lake for a family photography session with the Kochan family. And when I say we froze, I mean WE FROZE.
It was only 1°C with the windchill, and being right beside the water with the wind made it feel even colder. Definitely not the warm, cozy fall session we might have pictured when we planned their family photos!
But sometimes, the location matters more than the weather.
The Kochans wanted to have their family photos taken in a place that is special to them, with the beautiful outlook over the lake as the backdrop. And I am so glad we did. There is something incredibly meaningful about photographing families in places that hold memories for them rather than simply choosing a pretty location because it photographs well.
Family Photography at Pigeon Lake
The view overlooking Pigeon Lake was absolutely gorgeous. Even on such a cold and windy day, the lake created such a beautiful backdrop for their family photos.
I also couldn’t believe how green everything still was! Fall is definitely taking its time arriving in Alberta this year. Usually, by the end of September, I’m surrounded by much more colour, but this year there is still so much green everywhere.
I’m certainly not complaining. I’ll happily take a few more weeks of green before everything turns golden.
Pigeon Lake is such a beautiful area for family photography, especially for families who have a connection to the lake and surrounding communities. The combination of open landscapes, water, trees and beautiful natural light gives us so many opportunities for relaxed, natural family photos.
Family Photos Near Battle Lake, Alberta
I love photographing families throughout Central Alberta, including the Pigeon Lake and Battle Lake areas. When families invite me to photograph them somewhere that has personal meaning, it makes the session feel even more special.
These aren’t just photos of a family standing in a pretty location. They’re photographs connected to a place they know and love, which is something I think makes family photography so much more meaningful.
Even if we have to bundle up and brave a little Alberta wind to make it happen.
Thank you so much to the Kochans for having me out and trusting me to photograph your family in such a special place. It may have been freezing, but that beautiful lake view made it completely worth it!
If you’re looking for a family photographer in Pigeon Lake, Battle Lake or Central Alberta, I’d love to photograph your family somewhere that is meaningful to you. Your favourite lake, your acreage, your family home or a location you visit together regularly can all make beautiful settings for family photographs.
