A Beautiful Fall Family Photography Session in Sherwood Park

There is something so special about this time of year for fall family photography in Alberta. The mornings are getting cooler, there is a little frost in the fields, and the first hints of fall colour are starting to appear. Jill and Steve met me for family photos this morning, and we couldn’t have asked for more beautiful light.

The light was absolutely stunning. The combination of the soft morning sun, a little frost still covering the field, and the first touches of autumn colour created the most beautiful setting for their family photos. Fall in Alberta can be such a short season, so I love getting to photograph families during these few weeks when everything feels like it is transitioning.

And then there was Maddison and Ethan.

These two might just be the world’s most beautiful babies. Not only are they completely adorable, but they were also incredibly well behaved for their entire session. SO CUTE!

Family photography with little ones is always a little unpredictable, which is part of what makes it so fun. Sometimes the sweetest photographs come from simply letting kids be themselves, cuddling with their parents, exploring the field, and capturing all of those little personalities as they naturally come through.

For Jill and Steve, we had the perfect combination of beautiful fall family photos, gorgeous light, and two very happy little babies. These are the kinds of sessions I love most because they aren’t just about creating beautiful portraits. They are about documenting this particular stage of your family while your children are this tiny and your family looks exactly as it does right now.

There is something especially beautiful about letting children explore and interact with their families rather than expecting everyone to stand perfectly still and smile at the camera.
