Extended Family Photography in Sherwood Park: A Birthday Gift for Debbie

Extended Family Photography in Sherwood Park: A Birthday Gift for Debbie

When Bob first called me, he had a very sweet idea. He wanted to give his wife, Debbie, a birthday gift, and instead of buying something that would eventually be forgotten, he decided to give her something they could keep forever: photos of their family.

I honestly can’t think of a better gift.

The plan was originally meant to be a surprise for Debbie, although she did end up finding out about the family photography session before we got together. Even without the surprise, though, it was such a thoughtful way to celebrate her birthday and bring everyone together.

And the whole family absolutely nailed the outfits. Coordinating clothing for a large extended family can be a challenge, but everyone looked fantastic without feeling overly matched or coordinated. The result was exactly what I love about extended family photography: everyone still looks like themselves, but the images feel cohesive as a collection.

We spent the middle of the afternoon together photographing the family, capturing both the larger family groupings and all of the smaller connections within the family. With extended family sessions, I always want to make sure we get those important photographs of everyone together, but I also love breaking things down into individual families, couples, grandparents, siblings and all of the little combinations that make up a family.

These are the photographs that become more meaningful as the years go by.

Kids grow up, families change, grandparents get older, and everyone gets busier. Having photographs that document all of you together during this particular season of life is something you simply can’t recreate later.

For families looking for extended family photography in Sherwood Park or Edmonton, this is exactly why I love these sessions. They aren’t just about getting everyone to smile for one photograph. They’re about creating a collection of images that tells the story of your family and gives everyone something tangible to hold onto.

Happy birthday, Debbie! And thank you to the entire family for spending your afternoon with me. I hope these photographs become one of those gifts that keeps giving for many, many years.

If you’re looking for extended family photography in Edmonton, Sherwood Park or the surrounding area, I’d love to help you create photographs your family will treasure.
