Some weddings are so full of emotion that you can feel the love and faith woven into every moment. Madelynn and James’ wedding day, with a heartfelt ceremony on private property and a joyful reception at the Gibbons Community Cultural Centre, was one of those unforgettable celebrations — filled with tears, laughter, and a deep foundation of faith that made the entire day so moving.

I had the honor of photographing their wedding alongside my second shooter, Karissa, and together we witnessed countless beautiful moments — from joyful bridal party fun to tearful family prayers.

A Bride with a Vision

Madelynn’s stunning dress was found at the bridal fair (designer unknown), and she paired it beautifully with DIY touches throughout the day. She made her own bouquets and boutonnières using faux flowers from different stores, as well as her décor — from the welcome sign to the aisle buckets, centerpieces, seating chart, and even the dance floor setup. Everything had her personal touch, showing just how much love and care she poured into her wedding vision.

Her bridesmaids wore dresses from Azazie and Park & Fifth (@parkandfifthco), while the groomsmen kept things stylish with suits from Amazon. James also found his outfit on Amazon, keeping the day both budget-friendly and personal.

Hair, Makeup & Bridal Prep

Madelynn’s look came together with the help of her talented glam team:

  • Hair: Kaitlyn Pawlechko & Crystal Burube (@charisandbeautyhair & @anna.the_og)
  • Makeup: Jenna Bohnet (@mrsjennamay_)

Their artistry highlighted her natural beauty while letting her radiant joy shine through.

A Day Full of Faith & Family

What stood out the most about this wedding was the strong foundation of faith. The ceremony at private property, officiated by James’ grandfather, John Swanson, was deeply moving. Tears filled the room as family and friends witnessed not just two people joining together, but a marriage built firmly on love, commitment, and their shared faith.

It was a privilege to photograph these moments — hands clasped in prayer, parents wiping away tears, and the way Madelynn and James looked at each other with so much love and gratitude.

Reception at Gibbons Community Cultural Centre

Following the ceremony, family and friends gathered at the Gibbons Community Cultural Centre for a celebration filled with food, dancing, and heartfelt toasts. Guests enjoyed delicious catering by Tracy Mulligan (@cfcatering) and danced the night away with music from Neil of Grindstone Productions (@grindestone_events).

The sweetest touch? Their cake, lovingly baked by Madelynn’s great aunt Elaine Rowan, and donuts from Mavericks Donuts, which made the dessert table a true hit!

All the linens and wine glasses came from Gather in Grace Rentals (@gather.in.grace.rentals), tying everything together beautifully.

DIY Done Right

What amazed me most about Madelynn and James’ wedding was how much of it Madelynn planned and created herself, with help from family and friends. From the décor to the florals, every piece told a story — not just of her creativity, but of the love and community surrounding them on their big day.

Final Thoughts

As an Edmonton wedding photographer, I see a lot of beautiful celebrations — but Madelynn and James’ wedding at Sturgeon Alliance Church and the Gibbons Community Cultural Centre will always stand out for the raw emotion, the overwhelming joy, and the deep faith that anchored their vows. It was such an honor to capture these memories, alongside Karissa, and I know these images will forever remind them of the love that surrounded them.

Congratulations, Madelynn & James — your wedding was truly unforgettable!
