A Whyte Avenue Winter Engagement Session | Janelle & Chris

A Whyte Avenue Winter Engagement Session | Janelle & Chris

Winter engagement sessions in Edmonton are not for the faint of heart — and Janelle & Chris proved that in the best way possible.

We met up on Whyte Avenue on a brutally cold winter morning, with freezing wind whipping down the street, muddy snow underfoot, and icy patches everywhere you turned. Classic Edmonton winter conditions. Despite all of that, these two showed up with the best attitudes, ready to laugh, move, and fully embrace the experience. Miraculously, we all managed to leave with warm fingers and toes still intact.

Whyte Avenue is one of our favourite locations for engagement sessions, especially in winter. The mix of historic buildings, local shops, textured alleyways, and vibrant street life gives so much variety in a small area. Even on cold days, it has so much character and charm, making it perfect for couples who want photos that feel urban, candid, and full of personality.

Halfway through the session, we took a much-needed break inside Block 1912, one of our absolute favourite cafés in the city. Huge thank you to the team at Block 1912 for welcoming us in and giving us a few minutes to warm up. That short pause made all the difference — cozy vibes, and a quick reset before heading back out into the cold. Block 1912 is always a go-to recommendation for couples planning a Whyte Avenue winter engagement session, whether for photos or just a post-shoot treat.

Janelle & Chris were absolute troopers the entire time. From snuggling closer to keep warm to laughing through numb hands and red noses, they made the session feel effortless. Those genuine moments — the laughter, the movement, the connection — are exactly what we aim for in engagement photos. Winter sessions often bring couples physically closer, which naturally translates into intimate, authentic images.

Despite the challenging conditions, we ended the session with a collection of fun, cozy, and genuinely sweet photos that feel so true to who they are as a couple. Proof that even the coldest days can create the warmest memories.

If you’re considering a Whyte Avenue winter engagement session, don’t let the weather scare you off. With the right mindset, a great location, and maybe a warm café stop like Block 1912, winter sessions can be incredibly rewarding and full of character.

We can’t wait to share more from Janelle & Chris’ session!
