A Winter Engagement Session at Blackmud Creek | Alyssa & Ryley

There’s something incredibly special about winter engagement sessions in Edmonton, and our morning at Blackmud Creek was a perfect reminder of why I love photographing couples during this season.

I met Alyssa and Ryley early in the day at Blackmud Creek, one of my favourite locations for Edmonton winter engagement photos. The light was absolutely magical — soft, glowing, and filtering beautifully through the trees. Fresh snow always transforms this creek valley into something extra special, and even the gentle breeze added to the atmosphere, creating the prettiest movement as snow drifted around them.

Alyssa and Ryley’s outfits were completely on point for a winter engagement session. Thoughtfully coordinated without feeling overdone, their look complemented the snowy landscape perfectly and photographed so well against the natural textures of Blackmud Creek. Styling plays such a big role in winter sessions, and these two absolutely nailed it.

One of my favourite moments from their session was realizing we actually had a few people in common. Edmonton really does feel like a small world sometimes, and those little connections always make sessions feel more relaxed and personal. It didn’t take long for the two of them to settle in, laugh together, and simply enjoy being in the moment — which is exactly what I want for every engagement session I photograph.

Blackmud Creek is such a beautiful location for couples who want a natural, timeless backdrop for their engagement photos. In winter, it offers quiet trails, soft neutral tones, and incredible light — making it one of the best spots for Edmonton winter engagement sessions. The peaceful setting allows couples to slow down, connect, and focus on each other, which always results in the most genuine images.

Alyssa and Ryley’s session was the perfect mix of romance, fun, and winter magic. If you’re considering a winter engagement session in Edmonton and love the idea of snow, soft light, and a natural outdoor setting, Blackmud Creek is truly hard to beat.

If you’re planning your engagement photos and wondering whether winter is the right season — this is your sign.
