Rustic Alberta Wedding at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Northmark & Rycroft Ag Society Hall
Alberta Wedding at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Northmark & Rycroft Ag Society Hall
As an Edmonton wedding photographer, I have the privilege of capturing love stories in some of Alberta’s most heartfelt and personal settings. Recently, I photographed Evan and his bride’s wedding—a day filled with family, community, and meaningful DIY touches—at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Northmark and the Rycroft Ag Society Hall.
A Ceremony Filled with Tradition
The ceremony took place at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Northmark, a charming rural church that perfectly complemented their rustic, heartfelt celebration. The bride wore a beautiful gown and veil from Opportunity Bridal, while Evan looked sharp in his suit from TipTop Tailors.
The bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s bow ties and suspenders were from Azazie, and the groomsmen completed their look with pants and shirts from TipTop Tailors. Hair was styled by Wyld Cactus Hair, while makeup was done by the bridal party themselves, adding to the personal and intimate feel of the day.
Family-Crafted Floral & Decor
One of the most beautiful aspects of this wedding was how much of it was created by family. The bride’s Auntie Lisa (Lisa Zabolotniuk) took the lead on the floral arrangements, with help from her mom, Barb Barrs, and Auntie Karin (Karin Simrose). Flowers came from Costco, Little Petal Company in Spirit River, and even wheat sourced from Auntie Lisa’s own field—tying in a gorgeous prairie touch.
There was no wedding planner—Evan and his bride selected their décor, while their families and wedding party brought it all together.
A Warm & Lively Reception in Rycroft
The reception at the Rycroft Ag Society Hall was catered by George’s Catering, keeping guests well-fed with a delicious meal. Music was provided by Absolute Entertainment, and one of the most memorable moments was when the bride’s brother, Max Barrs, performed a live song for one of the dances.
The wedding cake was a stunning creation made by the bride’s cousin, Amy Zabolotniuk, who runs Black Cat Baking. Guests also admired the bride’s nails, done by Bella’s Nails in Edmonton (Medena Mastronardi).
And instead of a limo, the couple arrived in style in the bride’s family Mustang—another fun personal touch.
Capturing a Day of Love & Connection
Photographing this wedding solo allowed me to fully immerse myself in each moment—capturing emotional exchanges at the altar, candid laughter during speeches, and all the little details that made this day unique. From the wheat in the bouquets to the Mustang getaway, every choice reflected the couple’s personality and community spirit.
If you’re planning a wedding in Rycroft, Spirit River, or the Edmonton area and love the idea of a warm, family-focused celebration, I would love to be your photographer.
