Spring Extended Family Session at the RedTree Photography Acreage

Spring Extended Family Session at the RedTree Photography Acreage

There’s something about spring on the acreage that never gets old.

I recently had the chance to photograph Danielle’s extended family out here at the RedTree Photography acreage, and it was one of those evenings that just sticks with you. The kind that quietly reminds you why you fell in love with photography in the first place.

Extended family sessions can sometimes feel like a lot—more people, more moving pieces—but this one felt easy in the best way. Everyone showed up relaxed, happy to be together, and completely trusting of the process. The kids were amazing (truly), full of personality but still so cooperative, which made capturing those natural, connected moments effortless.

And then there was the light.

Spring evenings on the acreage have a way of showing off. The sunset filtered perfectly through the trees, wrapping everything in that soft, golden glow photographers are always chasing. And the greens right now? They’re almost unreal. Fresh, vibrant, and so full of life that they hardly look real in camera.

This is exactly why I always tell people not to sleep on spring sessions.

While fall tends to get all the attention for family photos in Alberta, spring has its own kind of magic—lush landscapes, longer days, and a softness to the light that you just don’t get any other time of year. It’s also the perfect time for extended family sessions, especially when everyone is eager to be outside again after a long winter.

Hosting sessions at the RedTree Photography acreage makes it even more special. It’s private, peaceful, and designed to give families space to relax and just be together—no distractions, no crowds, just genuine connection in a beautiful setting.

Danielle’s family reminded me of what these sessions are really about. Not just perfectly posed photos, but the in-between moments, the laughter between cousins, the way parents and grandparents naturally gather in, and the feeling of being surrounded by your people.

If you’ve been thinking about booking extended family photos, spring is truly one of the best times to do it. The window is short, but the results are always worth it.

Now is the time.
