Summer Field Family Photos Near Sherwood Park | RedTree Photography

There’s something extra special about photographing families year after year — especially when I’ve had the chance to watch them grow from the very beginning.

I first met Daniel & Charlotte in 2018, when I photographed their engagement session. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of photographing them every single year — and sometimes more than once a year! Getting to document their relationship, their growing family, and all of the little changes along the way is one of my favourite parts of being a family photographer in the Sherwood Park area.

Summer Family Photos in the Field

For this session, we headed out to my acreage near Sherwood Park for some summer field family photos. Summer mornings at the acreage are one of my favourite times to photograph families. The light is soft and beautiful, the fields are lush and green, and there’s something peaceful about being outside first thing in the morning.

Well… peaceful except for the mosquitoes.

There was a serious mosquito infestation happening during this session, but Daniel and Charlotte were absolute troopers. Despite the bugs, we were still able to capture so many sweet, natural moments of their family together.

And honestly, I think that’s part of what I love about family photography. It doesn’t have to be perfectly calm or perfectly posed. Sometimes it’s kids running through a field, parents cuddling their little ones, everyone laughing, and occasionally stopping to swat away a mosquito!

A Family I’ve Photographed for Years

One of the greatest compliments a photographer can receive is when a family continues to come back year after year.

After photographing Daniel & Charlotte’s engagement photos in 2018, I’ve been lucky enough to continue photographing their family throughout the years. Every session gives me another little snapshot of their lives — and getting to see their family grow has been incredibly meaningful.

There’s something different about photographing a family you already know. The kids are comfortable, everyone knows what to expect, and we can focus less on creating a “perfect” photo and more on capturing who they actually are together.

Those are the photographs I love the most.

Morning Family Photos Near Sherwood Park

I especially love photographing families in the morning at the acreage. The morning light gives the fields that soft, warm summer glow without the harshness of midday sun.

For families looking for family photos near Sherwood Park or Edmonton, an outdoor field session is a beautiful option during the summer months. There’s plenty of space for kids to move around, explore, and just be themselves, which makes it much easier to create natural photographs.

And while golden hour in the evening is beautiful, there is something really special about summer morning family photography too.

The fields are quiet, the light is gorgeous, and you get to start your day with your family photos already checked off the list!
