There is something especially meaningful about photographing people who understand what goes into creating beautiful photographs.

When another photographer or videographer chooses me to photograph their own family, it is incredibly humbling. They know the process. They know what it feels like to be behind the camera. And they understand just how important these photographs can become over time. So when fellow artists put their trust in me to capture their family, it really does feel amazing.

I recently had the opportunity to meet up with Cynthia and Luke, an incredibly talented photographer and videographer team from the Camrose area, for their family photos. And honestly, their family is just adorable.

We spent some time together photographing their family outdoors, making the most of the beautiful Alberta fall setting. One of my favourite things about photographing families in September is that you can sometimes still find so much colour and life in the landscape. The flowers are somehow STILL blooming, which feels like such a gift this time of year!

Alberta Fall Family Photos

Fall is one of my favourite seasons for family photography in Alberta. The changing landscape, long grasses, remaining flowers and softer autumn light create such a beautiful backdrop for family photos without making the photographs feel overly posed or seasonal.

For me, the goal is always to create a combination of genuine family moments and beautiful portraits. I want you to have photographs that show what your family actually felt like during this stage of life, while also giving you those classic portraits you’ll want to print and display in your home.

And photographing Cynthia and Luke’s family was such a joy. Their connection with their kids, the little in-between moments and all of those genuine expressions made my job very easy.

Although I am based near Sherwood Park and photograph families throughout the Edmonton area, I love photographing families from communities throughout Alberta. Camrose and the surrounding area have so many beautiful possibilities for outdoor family photography, particularly in the fall.
