Fall Family Photos at Sunset at the Acreage

I have photographed Kristin and her family in so many different places over the years. We have explored downtown, visited various parks around the city, and even spent time together in the studio. So this time, it was especially special to have them make the trip out to my acreage for their fall family photos.

There is something completely different about photographing families outdoors during golden hour. The evening light at the acreage is one of my favourite parts of fall photography. As the sun gets lower, everything takes on that beautiful golden glow, and the colours become warm and rich without looking overly processed.

Golden Hour Fall Family Photography

If you have followed my work for any length of time, you probably know how much I love natural light. Fall photos at sunset are one of my favourite combinations because the light does so much of the work for me.

The soft evening sun filters through the trees and long grasses, creating gorgeous backlighting and beautiful warmth in the photographs. It gives families the opportunity to move, play, interact and simply enjoy being together while I document what happens naturally.

The acreage is particularly beautiful in the fall, with long grasses, trees, open fields and seasonal colour creating a variety of backdrops without needing to travel between locations. And when the sun starts to set, the entire landscape changes.

I love that Kristin’s family has experienced so many different types of photography with me over the years. We have photographed in urban locations, city parks, and in the studio, so having them come out to the acreage gave us something completely different.

There is something really meaningful about photographing returning families in new locations as their children grow. The setting changes, the kids change, and the photographs tell another little piece of their story.

And honestly, I could photograph families in this light all evening.
