Maria & Ethan’s Edmonton Wedding at Greenfield Community Centre
Maria & Ethan’s Edmonton Wedding at Greenfield Community Centre
There is something incredibly special about a wedding that feels completely personal to the couple. Maria and Ethan’s Edmonton wedding was exactly that. From a wedding dress she discovered at the Edmonton Wedding Fair to flowers created by her mom, handmade wedding bands, and a reception they planned and decorated themselves, so many details of their day were connected to the people and story behind them.
Megan had the opportunity to photograph their beautiful wedding day, beginning with wedding formals at Mactaggart Sanctuary before heading to Greenfield Community Centre for their reception and some gorgeous sunset portraits.
A Wedding Dress Found at the Edmonton Wedding Fair
Maria purchased her wedding dress at the Edmonton Wedding Fair back in January from Calgary-based bridal boutique Cameo & Cufflinks. Her dress was the Bethenny by Love by Enzoani, and it was absolutely beautiful.
Her bridesmaids wore dresses ordered online from Azazie, while the groom and groomsmen kept things classic with tuxedos from a variety of brands, with most of the tuxedos coming from Tip Top Tailors.
The groom also found his wedding-day outfit at Tip Top Tailors, which has locations across Canada and specializes in suits, tuxedos and formalwear.
Hair and Makeup for the Wedding Party
Range Road Beauty was responsible for getting all of the girls wedding-ready, with Ashley and Mandy taking care of both hair and makeup.
Having hair and makeup done together is such a fun part of the wedding morning. It gives everyone a chance to relax, spend time together, and enjoy those little moments before the day really gets moving.
A Wedding Planned and Designed by the Couple
One of my favourite things about Maria and Ethan’s wedding is just how much of it they created themselves.
They were their own wedding planners and handled their own decor, making the day feel truly like theirs from beginning to end.
Even the flowers had an extra special personal connection. Maria’s mom created all of the wedding flowers herself, adding another meaningful handmade element to the celebration.
And when it came to transportation, they skipped the traditional limo altogether. They simply focused on what made sense for them and their day.
An Edmonton Wedding Ceremony at Mactaggart Sanctuary
Mactaggart Sanctuary is one of my favourite locations for Edmonton wedding photography. It offers so much variety for wedding portraits, with beautiful natural surroundings and plenty of options for wedding party, family, and couple photographs.
Megan photographed Maria and Ethan’s wedding formals there, creating a collection of classic portraits as well as more relaxed images of the two of them together.
One of the things I love about photographing weddings in Edmonton is the variety of beautiful locations available throughout the city. Mactaggart Sanctuary is especially wonderful because you can create so much variety without spending the entire day travelling between locations.
A Personal Touch: Their Best Friend Officiated
Another detail that made this wedding especially meaningful was their officiant.
Rather than hiring someone they didn’t know, Maria and Ethan asked their best friend, Zachary, to officiate their wedding ceremony.
Having someone who already knows and loves you standing up there to marry you adds such a personal element to the ceremony. It is these kinds of choices that make a wedding day feel less like following a formula and more like celebrating your actual relationship and the people who have been part of it.
Padmanadi Catering and a Costco Wedding Cake
For their wedding meal, Maria and Ethan chose Padmanadi, an Edmonton favourite known for its vegan Indonesian cuisine. Padmanadi also offers catering for events and weddings.
And for dessert? Costco.
I honestly love this. Your wedding doesn’t have to include every traditional luxury or expensive vendor to be beautiful and meaningful. Maria and Ethan chose the things that mattered to them, and their wedding day reflected their personalities rather than trying to check every box on a traditional wedding list.
Handmade Wedding Bands
One of the most personal details of all was their wedding bands.
Maria and Ethan worked with Flare Metalsmith Studio to make their own wedding bands.
There is something pretty incredible about wearing a ring that you had a hand in creating together. It becomes more than just a piece of jewellery. It becomes another part of the story of your wedding day. Flare Metalsmith Studio is located in Edmonton and offers hands-on metalsmithing workshops.
Sunset Wedding Photos at Greenfield Community Centre
After the wedding formals, Maria and Ethan headed to Greenfield Community Centre for their reception and celebrations.
They also took a little time for some sunset portraits, and this is one of those moments that perfectly illustrates why beautiful wedding photography doesn’t require an elaborate location.
Sometimes all you need is a lot of grass, beautiful evening light, and two people who are completely in love.
The golden light created such a gorgeous atmosphere around them, and Megan was able to capture romantic, timeless portraits without needing a complicated backdrop.
That is one of my favourite things about wedding photography. Beautiful venues are wonderful, but it is often the simplest locations and the best light that create some of the most memorable photographs.
A Wedding That Was Truly Their Own
From a wedding dress found at the Edmonton Wedding Fair to flowers made by mom, handmade wedding bands, a best friend as their officiant, and a wedding that they planned and decorated themselves, Maria and Ethan created a celebration that was unmistakably theirs.
And that’s what we love about weddings.
There isn’t one right way to get married.
Your wedding can be elaborate or simple, traditional or completely unconventional. What matters most is that when you look back at your photographs years from now, you see the two of you and the people you love reflected in the day.
Congratulations, Maria and Ethan! We are so happy you chose RedTree Photography to document such a meaningful part of your story. Megan loved being there to capture it all.
